The characters in this box set are fascinating and compelling, and I recommend these books to anyone looking for an interesting, complicated, evil, can't put it down series.Taken Boy is a uniquely dark, M/M, novella delving into one of the characters we were introduced to in an earlier book. In this story Ms. Renard takes us into the soul of two men, and allows us to watch how their interaction causes each of them to change and develop. Rarely, have I ever reacted so strongly to a book. There were times my heart would thump and I would almost forget to breathe. There were twists and turns and surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat. First, I could not stop reading, and then I wanted to stop - so it would NEVER END!Perfect Evil is another fascinating story. Loki Renard is able to use her skill with words to stimulate my imagination, whereby I was drawn into lives and events that previously never even entered my mind. We are able to watch crime boss, Angelo Vitali in action, as he lures, coerces, saves and ruins a young FBI agent. This agent's reactions are unique to his personality, and we are allowed to observe as he struggles with his own moral compass. His character possessed an intensity and depth that enticed this reader. In addition, Angelo Vitali is one of the most complex characters I have ever encountered. He follows his instinct, which thus far has served him well. He is highly intelligent and brilliantly manipulative. He is treacherous and menacing, yet conversely, alluring and compelling. He patiently and confidently waits until his human prey fulfills the destiny he himself has orchestrated.Pure Evil is book three in this set. When I began this series of connected, yet standalone stories, I was not sure what to expect. I feel like I stepped out of my original comfort zone to embark on a thrilling, exciting, unpredictable ride into places and with characters I had never considered learning about. Pure Evil continued to intrigue and seduce me with the unbelievably awesome twisting and turning minds and bodies of these individual, and Oh My Goodness, how much I loved it!! Somehow, in this book, good and bad intermingle and merge and become almost indistinguishable. Each character is unique and composed of many layers, and getting to know them has been a mind-boggling adventure.In Angelo, we learn WHY! When you are describing how a monster was made, there must be horrific occurrences. Loki skillfully lured me to the very edge of that horrifying precipice, where she coerced my own imagination to experience the plummet.When I read these stories, I was entirely transported to a different time and place, where I felt things I never thought I would or could. Thank you, Loki! Taken Boy:I had a great time reading this dark story of an older mafia king who kidnaps an up-and-coming mafia man. First thing I noticed was the delightful cheekiness of these characters. The dialogue is outrageous as Bobby has to decide whether he wants to give in. Yes, it has some filthy, sexy scenes, but they were written well and didn't seem that dark to me.The story is a novella, but it had twists and turns that you don't see coming. Angelo loves the chase. And reading how Bobby tries to get the upper hand is fun. I didn't find it that dark, but it was extremely unique. It stands out in the sea of books with the same subject.Instead of concentrating on mafia work, the author decided to write a character driven love story hiding underneath a revenge tale. By the end I was smiling.Perfect Evil: Angelo Vitali, a God among mobsters, has found his next victim. Renard sets up a story that forces a do-gooder fbi agent to face his fears and look in the mirror hard. Vitali is mesmerizing on the page, setting up seemingly innocuous events that are all part of a bigger plan. What makes him a unique force is that he's gay and simply never made it a THING, therefore it wasnt. Mark is powerless against Vitali 's cunning and wild intelligence. Mark questions everything, and after a terrible event, he folds and gives up. Angelo, Bobby and Mark end up as one messed up family strangely loyal in the face of each of their shortcomings.Pure Evil: As we are introduced to Damien Colt, the twists and turns fly. Angelo is seemingly neutered and Mark & Bobby attempt to make a normal relationship work. If you determine what normal means to these severely damaged people. As the reader, we learn just how far Angelo's reach really is when he's not physically in the picture. And it's always hard to get rid of his influence.Angelo: I love an alpha male, even one that is borderline sociopathic. I've read a ton of books with wonderful villains that I've hated to love. But Angelo is different. i'm already familiar with the characters. In this book, Angelo seems to have everyone and everything right where he wants it. He's in a relationship with Bobby, and Mark, while he talks back to Angelo, he still seems complacent. But things aren't as they seem, and Angelo can't help but look to the past for self reflection.We learn a lot about why Angelo is how he is, and while you might sympathize as the reader, Renard doesn't make excuses for Angelo. You find out what he went through, but you still say, "Angelo is a monster." He's a true enigma, and Mark ends up being the voice of reason. Why does Angelo let Mark get away with his words? Perhaps it's because Angelo compartmentalizes all his relationships, with each man in a specific role to suit Angelo 's needs, or future needs.I read the ending just wanting more. This is clearly the beginning of a series, but to me it's too short. This book is edited well, and flows like a dream. Angelo is too much of a man for one short book, and his past need a further exploring. Hopefully next book?
