I am not a big fan of Texas-based MM romances unless there are well-developed characters who are not stereotypical. In the case of this book, I was a bit skeptical because its location, West Texas, can be fertile grounds of intolerance. But even though I am from the Northeast, I have enough familiarity with this territory to know it has a rich cross-cultural history that involves white, Native American and Mexican heritages.So, I took a chance. Glad I did.Author Blake Allwood has brought us an extraordinarily bizarre family which includes Houston-based cover man Fletcher aka Flex and his cousin Eddie (aka Effie), whose mothers not only hate each other but also treat their sons like garbage. When Flex inherits his grandparent's ranch in a small West Texas town, Eddie's mother sues him and all hell breaks loose.This book begins after Flex has won control and he takes a trip to see if he can sell the place. He stays at a small motel down the road apiece which is owned by a late-20's hunk named Mitch, and you just know what is going to happen as soon as their hands touch. From that point more hell breaks loose.The plot involves all sorts of historical references and introduces us to a grand old couple named Mrs. Emma and Jimmy who have been taking care of the ranch all through the litigation and then some. These two are better than you could ever imagine (lots better than Fibber McGee and Molly used to be). They provide many linchpins to many parts of an intriguing plot.They are also the keys to developing a "family" that includes Flex, Eddie (divorced with nine-year-old and six-year-old sons), the aforementioned Mitch and eventually Eric. The latter is a childhood and subsequently life-long friend of Flex and Eddie who plays a major role at the beginning and then disappears until the end, kicking off a question or two of what is likely to follow.There is ghost talking, homophobia, violence, exceptionally hot sex, and all sorts of complications in this tale which ends--well, sort of. Let's just say that when I discovered that Eddie and Eric were getting their own sequels, I decided I would saddle up and visit them, too. After a long and exhausted battle in court with his aunt about his grandparents west texas ranch, flex is ready to finaly sell the ranch and move on with his life.When he is in town to meet with his relator, Flex and his best friend decides to take in on a motel in the smal town where the young mitch that have inherited it from his grandphafter works. They both almost right away have sparks of feelings for each other and it does not take them long to start talking when mitch is forced to tell one of the long term older women that have been camping at the place for a long time to leave for beeing homophobic to Flex.Flex on his side decides to visit the ranch before he sells it and he finds out that the tentant that watches over the ranch is two of his grandparents best friends that only doing their best despite their older age to make sure it still stands. As the ownership of the ranch gives flex nightmares related to his ongoing fight with his aunt and the ranch he starts dreaming about things that might really happen.I read the book in one go and i really liked it, i usually dont like instant attraction becuse it sometimes can be a bit rushed but this story felt good as the characters got time to develop their feelings for each other while dealing with what life threw at them. The story overall were quit interesting as even tho it were a love stroy there were a good and solid plot in there so that the focus werent just on the characters falling in love but also on the the other characters got to take a big part in it as well. I quite enjoyed reading it and looking forward to read more from Blake!
